Write the story

Let AI draft the borrower-facing narrative for an interactive report — purchase, refinance or single-loan — grounded only in your report's real numbers, then edit it to sound like you.

When you build an interactive report, the borrower reads a short, plain-language story about the loan you're putting in front of them — why it fits, and what to do next. Write the story drafts that narrative for you with AI, then hands it over for you to edit. It's a Max feature, and it works on all three report types: purchase, refinance and single-loan.

Where it lives

In the report builder, open a report in interactive mode and expand the Recommendation & story section.

On a purchase or refinance report, start by choosing your Recommended option — the story is written around it, so this comes first. A single-loan report has one loan and so no picker: the story is about that loan from the start, and you can write it straight away.

Writing the story

  1. Optionally add a line or two in Tell me about your client — their situation and priorities, like "first-time buyers, lowest payment matters, closing in three weeks," or "been in the house six years, wants the payment down more than the payoff date." This note is only ever seen by the AI, to steer the writing; your borrower never sees it.
  2. Click Write the story. Give it a few seconds — it reads and thinks about your report before it writes anything — and then the story boxes fill in: The quick answer, Best fit if… and Final note, the same sections your borrower reads on their report. A single-loan report has two boxes rather than three — there's no Best fit if…, because that section says why this option and not the others, and there are no others.
  3. Edit any of them to sound like you. Once you type in a box it's marked as your own words. Changed your mind? Each drafted box has an Undo AI pill to put back what was there before.

Save the report when it reads right — the saved story is what your borrower sees.

It sticks to your numbers

The AI writes the prose; it does not do the math. It will only mention figures that are already on the report, or that you typed into the brief — it won't total, subtract, re-derive, or invent a number, and it won't round a rate or an APR. If it's asked to promise an approval or an outcome it can't stand behind, it declines. And on the rare chance a draft strays from your report's numbers, LendrTech quietly swaps in a safe version of that section instead — the rest of the story stands.

One figure arrives already worked out. On a purchase report, when an option has both a lower monthly payment and higher closing costs than the option it's compared against, LendrTech works out how many months of that saving it takes to cover the extra closing costs, and hands the writer the answer in plain words — so the story can tell your borrower roughly how long it takes to break even on paying more up front. The AI states that period; it never works it out. An option that's cheaper both up front and every month has nothing to pay back, so no figure is offered for it. On a refinance the break-even is a different question — how long until the refinance pays for itself — and your Refinance analysis panel already answers it, on its own runway on the borrower's page. The writer isn't handed that figure, so it won't turn up in the story.

There's always a draft, even without AI

The story doesn't depend on the AI. The moment there's something to write about — you pick a recommended option, or, on a single-loan report, the loan has figures on it — LendrTech auto-drafts every section from the report's own numbers, so you always have a starting point. If the AI writer is ever unavailable, or you've used up this month's AI assistance, that quick draft is what you carry on from — the boxes are never empty and you never lose what you've written.

Your monthly AI assistance

Write the story draws on AI assistance — one monthly pool shared with the other places AI writes or builds for you in LendrTech. It sits as a slim bar under the Write the story button, and in full on the AI assistance card under Settings → Billing. If you use it all, the button pauses where it is and says when it's back; the pool refills at the start of each month, and the story boxes stay yours to write in the meantime.
