Record a walkthrough

Attach a screen, camera, or screen-and-camera recording to a report so your voice arrives with the numbers.

You spend twenty minutes on the phone walking a borrower through three options. They understand it completely. Then they open the report again at ten at night, alone, to explain it to their spouse — and all your explaining is gone. What's left is a table.

A walkthrough recording fixes that. Attach a short narrated video to the report and it sits at the top of the page your borrower opens, in your voice, whenever they come back to it.

Recording is a Max feature — see plans and billing.

Save first, then pick what to capture

The Record button lives in the top bar of the report builder, next to PDF and Save. It stays disabled until the report has been saved at least once — hover it and the tooltip says so — because the recording attaches to the saved report, not to the draft on your screen.

So: build the report, get the numbers where you want them, Save, then record.

Click Record and a small panel asks What would you like to record? Three choices:

  • Record Screen + Audio — your screen and your voice. The default for a walkthrough: scroll the report and talk over it.
  • Record Camera + Audio — you, talking. No screen. Good for a short personal message ("here's what I'd do, call me tomorrow").
  • Record Screen + Camera + Audio — both, with your camera tucked into the corner of the screen capture.

Pick one and recording starts as soon as your browser hands over the permissions below.

What your browser will ask for

This is the part that surprises people the first time, so it's worth knowing before you're live:

  • Which window or tab to share (screen modes). Your browser opens its own share picker. Choose the tab with the report in it.
  • Your microphone (all three modes). Every mode records audio, so you'll be asked once and — depending on your browser — remembered afterwards.
  • Your camera (camera modes). Same idea, asked at the same moment.

Decline any of them and LendrTech tells you it couldn't start and closes the panel — nothing is saved, nothing is attached. If the device or browser you're on doesn't support screen recording at all, you get a notice saying so when you try, rather than a recording that silently fails. Record from a computer, not a phone.

Recording, and stopping

While you're recording, the Record button in the top bar is replaced by a red Stop recording button. That's your stop control, and it's the same place your eye already is.

Three things end a recording:

  • Clicking Stop recording.
  • Stopping the share from your browser's own sharing bar, or closing the tab you were capturing.
  • Twenty minutes. Recordings stop automatically at that point — the panel tells you before you start. Twenty minutes is far longer than a good walkthrough; two or three minutes is usually plenty.

When you stop, the recording uploads. During the upload, Save and Send are temporarily unavailable and say they're waiting on the recording — that's deliberate. Navigating away mid-upload loses the recording, and a disabled button for a few seconds is cheaper than re-recording. When the upload finishes you'll get a confirmation and the video appears in the report.

Where the recording lives afterwards

Two places:

  • On the report itself. Reopen the report in the builder and the video is at the top, above the title.
  • On the client's page, under the Recordings tab. Every report with a walkthrough attached is listed there — "Walkthrough —" followed by the report title, with the report type and the date it was last updated. Click a row to open that report in the builder. See managing clients.

Each report holds one recording. Recording again on the same report replaces the old one — there's no version history and no "keep both," so if the first take was fine and the second wasn't, the second is what your borrower gets.

What your borrower sees

Send the report as you always would — emailing it or handing over the link. When your client opens the report link, the video sits at the very top of the page, above the report title, with ordinary player controls. They press play. Nothing to install, nothing to sign in to.

Two things to keep in mind:

  • The recording lives on the report link, not in the PDF. A PDF is a document; it can't hold video. If your borrower only ever opens the attachment, they'll get the report without your voice — so when the walkthrough is the point, say so in the email and point them at the link.
  • Anyone with the link can watch it. The link is the key to the report, and the video comes with it. Treat a recording exactly like the report itself, and remember you're talking about someone's finances out loud — record as though the file could be forwarded, because it can be.

Re-recording and deleting

To replace a recording, just record again on the same report.

To remove one entirely, open the report in the builder and click the small × beside the video. LendrTech asks Delete this recording? and warns that if you've already sent the recording to a client, they'll no longer be able to view it. Click Delete recording to confirm, or Cancel to keep it. Deleting the recording leaves the report itself untouched — the tables, charts and PDF are all exactly as they were.

Deleting works regardless of what plan you're on, so a recording you made on Max is never stranded on your account if your plan changes later.

Getting a good one

  • Say the borrower's name. It's the difference between a walkthrough and a webinar.
  • Have a shape in mind: what they're looking at, what you'd pick, what you need from them next.
  • Don't re-read the table. They can read. Tell them what it means.
  • Stop early. A ninety-second recording gets watched twice; a twelve-minute one gets watched never.

Recording not starting, or a video that won't upload? Email team@lendrtech.com with the browser you're using and we'll dig in.
